Visual Concept and photo-thumbs

I have changed tack somewhat from my original idea.  Phil felt that a dressing room wasn't uncanny enough and suggested using clowns or different perspectives, which I tried but felt it looked forced rather than uncanny.  So I tried moving it into a stock photo of a wood.

I've now taken the whole dressing table and moved it to a different environment.  I've done this using some of my photos just to speed up the process a bit, but I am thinking of matte painting the background and the forest floor and then building the dressing table and foreground trees in Maya. I've found a web tutorial on Maya trees and it looks achievable.

Unit 3 - Thumbs 25-36

I am so far behind...Christmas has shown me just how hard it is to be a "mature student"!
Anyway, heres to a fantastic 2012 for all of us!

No house as yet, I'm working on the tree roots. I'm planning blending the house in on the left.

THUMBNAILS, TIDIED UP AND VISIBLE

Above, House on the Borderland.  I particularly want to go with the Easter Island type god-statues (no 1). (No, this wasn't my first idea, I work backwards across the page cos I'm a leftie and I hate smudging my work).
I also like the rocky outcrop in no 24.

Above, Masque of the Red Death.
This story conjures up fantastic visions of both inside and outside the castle.  Inside the colour and decor should make it look opulent, but I am trying using balconies and stairs to give it a sense of space.  Im not used to working 16:9 and I'm finding it hard not to squash my image. I like 26 and 28 (outside) and 15 (inside).
Above, The Shunned House.  Ive come to a standstill with this one.  The house actually exists so it has either got to be exactly right or completely different to really work.  The cellar is more interesting, but again I am finding it hard to create space without getting boxed into a corner. No 8 could be lit interestingly.

Unit 1: Anatomy: Silhouettes

I have chosen some of the thumbnail sketches, and played with turning them into silhouettes.  Whilst I like the more insecty morphs, I will probably go with the human styles.

Unit 1: Anatomy: Thumbnail Sketches 1

I have guesstimated a potential skeleton for the mantis, as insects don't have skeletons like ours.  I have tried to use this as a biological base to shape the ideas that followed.
